Blown-out hair is a wonderful hairstyle. It’s a middle ground between curly and straight hair without using too much heat. It’s perfect when you want to maintain some curl and not go completely straight yet. It also gives a natural, textured, and full look without the risk of damaging your hair. It’s a popular choice for those who want versatility and minimal damage.
Blown-out hair is the best versatile look beginning in the Fall season AND in style into the Spring (except when those April showers hit)! Oftentimes, this style is perceived as difficult to maintain due to the textured roots, constant new growth, and a curl’s beautiful enemy reversion. Reversion is inevitable as well as the depletion of moisture within two days.
So, what can be done to make that blow-out last longer, moisturized, and prevent reversion with consistent new growth?
Well, it’s simpler than you could imagine!
After all the errors of spraying water in my hair, using products that are not geared toward my hair type, and using products way out of the realm of maintaining a blow-out. An answer has been found!
No more compromising and sacrificing moisture for style and vice versa. The technique being shown is key to having BOTH moisture and style!
Helpful Tips
- Separate hair into sections (at least 4). This allows for better work-flow, ensuring proper moisture.
- Use a dime sized amount of oil and leave-in (or buttercream or moisturizer) per section. You do NOT want the hair to revert by using too much
- Use a water-based moisturizer. Water is able to penetrate the strands. That is TRUE moisture.
- Focus on the oldest part of your hair first. The ENDS! These are the furthest from your scalp and may not receive the proper moisture or nutrients depending upon the length of your hair.
- Braid, twist, or bun hair to prevent reversion. Moist hair that is stretched not only retains length but prevents frizz as well.
- Wrap hair at night with a bonnet or a satin scarf. You can also use a satin pillowcase. Doing so allows for protection of the strands from snagging, as well as preventing your cotton pillowcase from absorbing the moisture that you just put in. You don’t want that to happen, right?
